Tar Heel Service Day and UNC – Miami Football

Update: Game time is 2:30 PM. We will meet in the parking lot at Stone Werks at the Vineyards to collect donations for our Service Day event. I have certificates, stickers and backpacks for participants. Then we can get back in the win column against Miami.

Mark your Calendars for October 15, 2016.  We are having 2 concurrent events.  We are getting together to cheer for the Tar Heels to beat Miami.  We will also hold our annual Tar Heel Service Day event just prior to the game.

Andrea Pierce Sealy is heading up our service day project to collect clothing items for homeless men and women in Bexar County with chronic mental illness.  Here are the details:

Southwest General Hospital is home to half of the community funded inpatient psychiatric hospital beds for Bexar County, TX. A vast majority of the patients that occupy these hospital beds are homeless men and women with chronic mental health issues. These are the most vulnerable of our community. Patients are stabilized and they are discharged back to the streets in most circumstances. Often they lack clothing and shoes and are released in paper hospital scrubs.

This Service Project aims to collect basic clothing items to allow these most vulnerable individuals a chance to truly get a new start. Items needed include:

• Underwear, under shirts/ t shirts, inexpensive shoes, socks, gloves, hats, scarves, pants, sweat shirts, sweat pants, reusable grocery bags

• Both men’s and women’s and in medium to xx large sizes.

Winter months are coming and these items will make a great difference in the lives of many people.
